Electricity Market Analyst – 3 Year Fixed-Term

About the role

The client is looking for an Electricity Market Analyst to join the Electricity Regulation Division. The analyst will provide data‑driven support for the regulation and oversight of the South African Wholesale Electricity Market (SAWEM). This is a three‑year fixed‑term position based in Durban.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse market data and support surveillance activities.
• Prepare regulatory intelligence reports and contribute to policy development.
• Assist with market regulation, pricing mechanisms and system dispatch insights.
• Provide stakeholder and inter‑departmental support.
• Maintain and improve analytical systems and tools.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s, BTech or Advanced Diploma (NQF 7) in Economics, Engineering, Energy Studies, Statistics, Data Science or related field.
• Post‑graduate qualification in Energy Economics, Power Systems or Applied Economics is an advantage.
• Minimum five years’ experience in electricity markets, energy analytics, economic or regulatory analysis.
• Experience working with large datasets and analytical tools.
• Strong analytical, quantitative, report‑writing and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
