Electrical Handyman – Balfour (Johannesburg)

About the role

We are looking for an Electrical Handyman to join the Electrical Engineering Department at our Balfour facility in Johannesburg. The role involves maintaining and repairing electrical systems across the abattoir, ensuring safe and reliable operation.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, repair, replace and maintain lights, light fittings, switches, plugs and socket outlets throughout the plant.
• Respond to electrical faults in production areas, cold rooms, offices, workshops and external sites.
• Assist authorised electricians with cable routing, conduits, cable trays and other maintenance tasks.
• Carry out planned inspections, report defects and support breakdown repairs.
• Follow electrical safety procedures, lock‑out requirements, hygiene rules and food‑safety standards.
• Maintain accurate work records and perform additional reasonable duties as required.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• Minimum three years’ experience as an electrical handyman or similar maintenance role.
• Experience in an industrial environment such as an abattoir or food‑processing plant is advantageous.
• Ability to work at heights and in wet, cold or wash‑down areas, including shift and breakdown work.
• Commitment to safe, independent work and high workmanship standards.

Required skills

• Electrical fault‑finding.

• Knowledge of electrical safety and lock‑out procedures.
