Electrical Engineer – Building Services (Cape Town)

About the role

An industry‑leading consulting engineering firm is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer to join its Cape Town office. You will design, coordinate and deliver electrical building services for commercial, retail, residential and mixed‑use projects while working closely with clients, architects and multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design electrical building services systems for commercial, residential, retail and mixed‑use developments.
• Prepare electrical designs in line with client requirements and South African SANS standards.
• Coordinate electrical services with multidisciplinary project teams.
• Produce technical specifications, engineering reports and design documentation.
• Estimate electrical loads and bulk supply requirements for new developments.
• Liaise with municipal authorities and utility providers for connections and infrastructure.
• Prepare tender documentation and evaluate contractor submissions.
• Procure electrical equipment such as lighting, generators and UPS systems.
• Monitor project costs, assist with budgeting and cost control.
• Conduct site inspections and provide construction support throughout execution.

Required profile

• BSc or BEng in Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years’ experience in electrical engineering within a consulting or building services environment.
• Proven experience on commercial, retail, residential and mixed‑use projects.
• Strong knowledge of South African electrical standards, especially SANS 10142.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa is advantageous but not essential.
