Electrical Design Engineer – Cape Town

About the role

Lycopodium is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join its Cape Town office. You will work on high‑profile projects across resources, infrastructure and industrial processes, delivering detailed electrical designs that meet global standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform detailed electrical engineering designs, power system calculations and equipment configuration.
• Ensure all designs comply with project specifications, industry codes, statutory requirements and quality standards.
• Collaborate with design and drafting teams to produce schematics, wiring diagrams, single‑line diagrams and equipment layouts.
• Coordinate technical interfaces with other engineering disciplines for full system integration.
• Prepare comprehensive documentation including scopes of work, bills of materials, equipment specifications and technical datasheets.
• Develop tender packages and provide engineering input for procurement of switchgear, motors and related equipment.
• Review vendor documentation and manage interface checks and design integration.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from a reputable institution.
• Minimum 3 years of post‑graduate experience in a similar role.
• Registration as an ECSA Professional Engineer or Professional Engineering Technologist is advantageous.
• South African citizen or permanent resident.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and self‑management abilities.

Required skills

• Electrical design and power system calculations.
• Knowledge of SANS and international design codes and standards.
• Creation of electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, single‑line diagrams and equipment layouts.
• Preparation of bills of materials, scopes of work and technical datasheets.
• Tender package development and procurement support.
• Vendor documentation review and interface management.
