About the role
The Kouga Municipality is seeking a qualified Electrical Area Engineer to manage and improve its electrical distribution network within the municipality.
Key responsibilities
- Analyse trends, operating requirements and develop funding plans for electrical services.
- Monitor performance against budget, implement corrective measures and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Prepare and approve drawings, designs and cost estimates for minor works and oversee their implementation.
- Develop and implement strategies to improve network performance, control energy losses and ensure accurate metering.
Required profile
- National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current) from an accredited institute.
- Registration or candidate registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa as a Professional Engineering Technician or Technologist.
- Four years of relevant experience in a local government electrical environment.
- Ability to speak, read and write in at least two of Afrikaans, English and Xhosa.
Required skills
- Heavy‑current electrical engineering knowledge.
- Three‑Phase Wireman’s Licence (Installation Electrician).
- Computer literacy for reporting and analysis.
What we offer
- Annual salary of R 643 780.66 (excluding vehicle allowance).
- Standby duty during emergency power supply shut‑downs.
