Driver – Pretoria

About the role

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Regional Office for Southern Africa in Pretoria is seeking a reliable Driver to support the Regional Representative and senior staff. The role involves safe transportation of personnel, handling official parcels, and ensuring vehicle readiness in a diplomatic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Drive UN vehicles safely for the transport of authorized staff and visitors.
• Pick up and deliver parcels, diplomatic pouches, documents and other items between the UN office, ministries, embassies and other institutions.
• Collect urgent purchases from local suppliers and handle customs formalities for goods.
• Receive and escort officials at the airport, assisting with immigration and customs procedures.
• Perform daily vehicle checks, basic maintenance, minor repairs and keep the vehicle clean.
• Log trips, mileage, fuel consumption and ensure proper reporting in case of accidents.
• Provide first‑aid or basic life‑support assistance when required.
• Support data collection, analysis and preparation of simple reports or visual material.

Required profile

• Valid driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
• Familiarity with Pretoria’s road network and ability to navigate frequently used routes.
• Good knowledge of UN vehicle‑use policies and customs regulations.
• Ability to interact courteously with senior officials, diplomats and visitors.
• Willingness to perform basic vehicle maintenance and arrange external repairs.
• Basic first‑aid training and ability to act in emergency situations.
