Driver – Explosives Transport

About the role

The driver will be responsible for the safe transport of explosives and related materials between manufacturing sites, storage facilities and designated disposal areas. This role ensures compliance with all relevant regulations, maintains vehicle safety and supports the smooth flow of materials in a high‑risk environment.

Key responsibilities

• Transport various explosives, detonator waste, acid/reagents and effluent in accordance with regulations.
• Perform daily vehicle inspections using check sheets and adhere to spillage cleaning procedures.
• Obtain and renew explosives licences, COF, Rigid Heavy and Light Vehicle Certificates as required.
• Maintain Dangerous Goods road permits, PPE standards and vehicle documentation.
• Load and off‑load explosives safely, return used lead azide drums, and supply trolleys as needed.
• Complete delivery notes, requisition forms, trip logbooks and trolley dispatch records for traceability.
• Keep the vehicle interior and exterior clean and safe at all times.

Required profile

• Matric or NQF Level 4 qualification.
• Valid EC1 code licence and professional driving permit.
• At least three years of driving experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Knowledge of explosives regulations, dangerous goods transport procedures and relevant SHEQ legislation.
• Familiarity with vehicle maintenance schedules and World Class Manufacturing principles.
• Basic computer literacy.
