Domestic Assistant – Westray Surgery (NHS Orkney)

About the role

We are seeking a Domestic Assistant to support the cleaning and domestic services at Westray Surgery, part of NHS Orkney. The role ensures a clean, safe environment for patients, staff and visitors in line with the NHS National Cleaning Specification.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning of clinical and non‑clinical areas, including patient rooms, waiting areas and treatment rooms.
• Maintain hygiene standards according to NHS cleaning specifications and infection‑control policies.
• Dispose of waste safely and restock cleaning supplies as needed.
• Report any hazards or maintenance issues promptly.

Required profile

• Previous experience in cleaning or domestic services.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Commitment to confidentiality and professional conduct.

Required skills

• Knowledge of standard cleaning procedures and use of cleaning equipment.
• Understanding of health‑care cleaning standards (advantageous but not mandatory).
