Dispensary Support (Fixed Term) – Mossel Bay

About the role

Dis-Chem is looking for a Dispensary Support staff member at its Mossel Bay Mall store. This fixed‑term position is designed for learners who are undertaking the basic pharmacist assistant course and will provide hands‑on experience in a retail pharmacy environment. The role will continue until the employee registers with the SAPC as a learner basic assistant, after which permanent employment may be offered.

Key responsibilities

• Sell Schedule 1 medicines and other scheduled substances under pharmacist supervision.
• Assist with compounding, manipulation and preparation of non‑sterile medicines according to standard operating procedures.
• Unpack, merchandise stock and maintain cleanliness of dispensary and OTC shelves.
• Interpret prescriptions, pick, pack, label and check medication for accuracy.
• Ensure all dispensed medication is verified and signed by a pharmacist.
• Control stock levels, manage shelf organisation, monitor expiry dates and report low or out‑of‑stock items.
• Follow up with patients on script tracking and appointment reminders.
• Handle call‑centre scripts, provide health information and assist with scheme authorisation for chronic, HIV/AIDS and oncology medication.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or Senior Certificate with Pure Mathematics (≥50%), Life Science and/or Physical Science, overall average ≥50%.
• Successful completion of the proficiency test required for registration with the South African Pharmacy Council as a learner basic assistant.
