Dispatch Assistant Manager – Distribution Centre (Cape Town)

About the role

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Dispatch Assistant Manager for its distribution centre in Stikland, Cape Town. The role is responsible for operational excellence across order consolidation, route planning, dispatch, returns and vehicle maintenance to meet legal and customer requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and optimise routes and space utilisation to meet daily strategic objectives and ensure timely deliveries to local and coastal stores.
• Manage dispatch processes, including vehicle routing, returns handling, and tracking of upliftments.
• Oversee vehicle maintenance, record keeping and compliance with operational requirements.
• Coordinate with night‑shift manager on priorities, productivity, accuracy and staffing.
• Handle personnel matters, training, performance reviews, staffing levels and disciplinary actions.
• Maintain accurate administration for transactional excellence, POD requirements and driver paperwork.
• Monitor fleet running costs, diesel usage, accidents and insurance claims.
• Resolve internal and external customer queries and maintain relationships with third‑party stakeholders.
• Manage outsourced service providers, monitor SLA performance and control security risks.
• Identify cost‑saving opportunities, manage financial indicators and ensure adherence to budgets and corporate governance.

Required profile

• Matric (Grade 12) or equivalent; Degree/Diploma in Logistics or Supply Chain Management.
• Minimum three years’ experience in distribution, logistics or supply‑chain environments.
• Experience in retail/pharmaceutical supply chain is an advantage.
• South African citizen, clear criminal and credit record, valid driver’s licence and own reliable transport.

Required skills

• Proficiency with SAP, EWM or other ERP systems.
