Director: Labour Law

About the role

The University of South Africa (UNISA) seeks a strategic leader to head its Labour Law division. This five‑year fixed‑term position will provide expert legal counsel on employment matters, support academic activities, and ensure compliance with relevant legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive legal services including risk management, litigation, dispute resolution, policy drafting and contract review.
• Provide strategic leadership on labour and employment law, promoting effective employee relations and good governance.
• Advise on legal compliance, organisational risk mitigation and governance frameworks.
• Support research and tuition activities by offering strategic development, implementation and governance advice.
• Engage with stakeholders, uphold financial stewardship and sustainability standards.

Required profile

• LLB qualification with admission as an Attorney or Advocate.
• Minimum 10 years relevant legal experience, including at least 5 years in a management role.
• LLM degree is an advantage.
• Experience in higher education environments is preferred.
