Director, Information Centre

About the role

The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Pretoria is seeking a senior leader to head its Information Centre. Reporting to the Chief of the Information Centres Service and directly to the United Nations Resident Coordinator in South Africa, the Director will steer communications strategy, manage staff, and ensure the UN’s message reaches diverse South African audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the centre’s work programme, including budgeting, reporting, recruitment and staff performance evaluation.
• Develop, design and implement communications programmes aligned with the UN Global Communications Strategy, covering multimedia campaigns, digital and social media content in multiple languages.
• Build and maintain networks with media, government, NGOs, educational institutions and the creative community.
• Oversee the production and dissemination of UN information products, ensuring quality and relevance.
• Foster teamwork, provide training and mentorship to staff across South Africa and the wider region.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior communications or public information roles, preferably within international or multilateral organisations.
• Proven leadership and staff‑management capabilities.
• Strong understanding of multimedia and digital communication trends.
• Ability to engage diverse stakeholders, including youth, media and civil society.
