Diesel Technician – Car & Truck Hire

About the role

Our client, a leading vehicle and truck rental company, is looking for a qualified Diesel Technician to join their workshop in Linbro Park, Sandton. The role involves maintaining, servicing and repairing a fleet of diesel‑powered cars and trucks to ensure high availability and roadworthiness.

Key responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance and inspections on the rental fleet.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults, including diesel engines, gearboxes, differentials, clutches, brakes and steering components.
• Carry out engine overhauls, rebuilds and component replacements according to manufacturer specifications.
• Use electronic diagnostic equipment to identify faults and conduct root‑cause analysis on recurring issues.
• Complete pre‑delivery, return and emergency breakdown inspections, and assist with roadside repairs.
• Accurately complete job cards, record labour hours, parts used and maintain service histories.
• Ensure workshop health‑ and safety standards and proper waste disposal procedures.

Required profile

• Grade 12 (Matric) and a qualified Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal or equivalent).
• 3–5 years post‑trade experience as a Diesel Technician, preferably on light and heavy commercial vehicles.
• Experience with scheduled maintenance, engine overhauls and warranty claim processing.
