Despatch Controller

About the role

The Despatch Controller oversees all dispatch operations within a bakery environment, ensuring that customer deliveries, inter‑depot transfers, and inter‑bakery shipments are loaded accurately, dispatched on time, and supported by complete documentation. The role is pivotal in maintaining service levels, minimizing product loss, and driving operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and control daily dispatch operations, ensuring vehicles are loaded according to delivery schedules.
• Manage inter‑depot and inter‑bakery stock transfers to guarantee product availability across the network.
• Verify stock issued from production, conduct daily dispatch reconciliations and monitor returns.
• Coordinate truck loading sequences, monitor vehicle availability, and liaise with transport providers on delays.
• Supervise Dispatch Clerks and Loaders, allocate tasks, monitor attendance and performance, and provide coaching.
• Ensure loading accuracy against approved sheets, verify documentation, and implement controls to prevent losses.
• Monitor service levels, investigate delivery failures and support continuous improvement initiatives.
