Debt Collection Attorney

About the role

This position is for a qualified attorney to independently manage debt collection, sectional title levy collection and related litigation matters for a law firm based in Edenvale, Johannesburg. The role offers a competitive gross salary ranging from R20,000 to R30,000 per month, depending on post‑admission experience.

Key responsibilities

• Independently attend to debt collection, sectional title levy collection and litigation matters.
• Manage personal diary using the legal practice management system.
• Draft pleadings and correspondence, ensuring factual and procedural accuracy before filing.
• Handle electronic email communications and respond promptly to client and debtor queries.
• Record fees and disbursements in the practice management system.
• Conduct ad‑hoc legal research as required.
• Appear in court to move applications, conduct trials and liaise with magistrates or judges.
• Prepare pleadings, letters and other required legal documents.
• Consult with clients, colleagues and counsel on case matters.

Required profile

• Presentable and professional individual (female preferred).
• Excellent business English proficiency.
• LLB degree completed and admitted as an attorney.
• 1–2 years post‑admission experience in High Court and Magistrate’s Court litigation and debt collection.
• Experience in sectional title levy collections is highly preferred.
• Fully independent in handling debt collection and related litigation matters.
• Good knowledge of legislation governing debt collection and sectional title levy collections.
• Valid driver’s licence and own vehicle.
• Stable employment record with verifiable references.
• Resides within commuting distance of Edenvale.

Required skills
