Data Governance Manager

About the role

We are seeking a Data Governance Manager to lead the design, implementation and continuous improvement of the enterprise data governance framework for a leading mining client. The role is hybrid, based in Centurion, Gauteng, and will work closely with business, IT, risk and compliance teams to treat data as a strategic corporate asset.

Key responsibilities

• Define and embed data governance policies, operating models and stewardship processes across technical, corporate and operational data domains.
• Establish data ownership, master data, metadata, business glossary and data catalogue structures.
• Drive enterprise data quality programmes and monitor performance metrics.
• Implement information governance, retention and compliance controls, including POPIA and other regulatory requirements.
• Assess and manage data risk, conduct audits and support AI and advanced analytics data governance.
• Lead governance forums, stakeholder engagement and change‑enablement initiatives.

Required profile

• Relevant Bachelor’s degree (NQF 7) or equivalent; postgraduate qualification in Data Management or related field is an advantage.
• 8‑10 years of experience in data management, business intelligence or related roles, preferably within the mining or heavy‑asset sector.
• Minimum 5 years leading data governance, data quality, master data or enterprise data programmes in a large organization.
• Proven track record of implementing data governance frameworks and influencing senior stakeholders.
• Familiarity with POPIA and other data‑privacy regulations applicable to JSE/LSE‑listed companies.
