Data Centre Breakfix Engineer – 1‑Year Contract

About the role

This 1‑year contract position is based between Mimecast's two Johannesburg data‑centre locations. As part of the Global Technical Operations team, you will ensure data‑centre hardware remains operational and support rapid deployment and decommissioning of equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and promote global standards and best practices for data‑centre operations.
• Rack quarterly server deliveries and network equipment; decommission aging hardware.
• Track server and network assets throughout their lifecycle and maintain accurate asset records.
• Manage JIRA tickets, diagnose server component faults, and perform hardware replacements.
• Coordinate with monitoring systems, third‑party remote‑hands engineers, and multiple vendors for RMA management.
• Handle worldwide shipments, maintain data‑centre equipment records, and produce weekly progress reports.

Required profile

• Self‑motivated, strong team player able to thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
• Physically capable of lifting or moving equipment up to 22.5 kg daily (group lifts for heavier loads).
• Flexible to travel to US Boston data‑centres when required.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a noisy, multi‑vendor data‑centre setting.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Understanding of data‑centre cabling standards and critical infrastructure.
• Strong knowledge of server hardware and troubleshooting techniques.
• Familiarity with out‑of‑band server communication methods.
• Experience with Atlassian JIRA and Confluence.
• Experience with Microsoft SharePoint.

What we offer

• Full‑time 1‑year contract (40 hours/week).
• Rate of R260 per hour.
