Data and ML Engineer

About the role

The green‑energy supplier is seeking an Associate Data and ML Engineer to join its technical shared services team in Cape Town. You will be responsible for delivering end‑to‑end data products, from ingestion and modelling to machine‑learning‑ready datasets, supporting both reporting and advanced analytics.

Key responsibilities

• Design and own modular, reusable ingestion pipelines (API, SQL stored procedures, ETL/ELT) for sources such as CAMs, ERP, OT, IoT and SharePoint, ensuring reliable flow into the single source of truth (SSOT).
• Develop coherent data models and feature pipelines that enable reporting, analytics and machine‑learning use cases.
• Maintain operational health of the domain, including monitoring, alerting, incident resolution and SQL performance tuning.
• Build, evaluate and integrate machine‑learning models (forecasting, anomaly detection, neural networks) and manage model drift and over‑fitting.
• Implement MLOps practices: data and model versioning, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring and automated retraining.
• Own AVEVA PI and CAM assets, design Asset Framework templates, manage asset lifecycle and ensure data integrity across the SSOT.
• Communicate technical decisions to non‑technical stakeholders and mentor junior team members.

Required profile

• Ability to work with minimal supervision and make scalable architectural decisions.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset with a focus on data governance, security and change management.
• Experience collaborating across divisions and enforcing standards and timelines.
