Customer Assistant

About the role

The purpose of this role is to contribute to the overall success of the store by providing customers with accurate and relevant information, resolving queries efficiently, and delivering an exceptional customer experience. The Customer Assistant will play a key role in supporting daily store operations, building strong customer relationships, and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction through professional and efficient service.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a host/hostess to welcome customers, provide product and service information, resolve queries and build strong relationships.
• Accurately manage the cash desk, processing orders, exchanges, refunds and cash‑back while recording all transactions.
• Onboard customers to the loyalty program, recommend additional products and ensure processes minimise waiting times and enhance service quality.
• Ensure full compliance with internal control procedures and till policies, maintaining accurate records for all transactions.
• Liaise with relevant departments regarding returned goods and promptly escalate any risks or issues to management.

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric (essential).
• Experience in a retail sales environment with the ability to identify and act on upselling opportunities.
• Practical experience managing cash‑desk transactions (cash, refunds, exchanges) with full accuracy.
• Strong communication skills, conveying information clearly and with empathy.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
