CSSD Assistant

About the role

A vacancy exists for a CSSD Assistant at Life Sport Science Surgical Day Centre in Johannesburg, reporting to the Unit Manager. The role ensures correct packing and sterilisation of instrument sets and linen packs for theatres and doctors' rooms in line with infection‑control standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare instrument sets and linen packs to company standards.
• Apply sterile indicators and operate autoclaves for maximum steam penetration.
• Conduct chemical, biological and mechanical checks on sterilisation equipment.
• Document test results and maintain heat‑sealing machines and washers.
• Perform regular checks on linen levels and ensure adequate stock.
• Maintain and repair gas autoclave and other equipment as required.
• Review stock utilisation and develop cost‑effective action plans.

Required profile

• CSSD experience and training in a private hospital setting.
• Matric qualification.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Experience in packing of equipment and flexible working hours.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, instruments and cleaning processes.
• Awareness of safety protocols and adherence to standardised autoclave loading/unloading.
