Construction Manager

About the role

The Construction Manager will lead multidisciplinary construction projects for Proconics in Secunda, ensuring that engineering designs are executed safely, on time, and within budget. You will act as the primary interface between customers, design teams, and on‑site personnel, guaranteeing that Proconics is recognised as a trusted partner.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, execute and monitor construction projects across multiple sites, focusing on electrical and instrumentation scopes.
• Ensure onsite safety compliance, manage budgeting, scheduling and resource allocation.
• Lead and supervise direct reports including supervisors, safety officers, environmental officers and subcontractors.
• Oversee MV and LV switchgear replacements, commissioning activities and final sign‑off.
• Maintain alignment with contract requirements, NEC3/ECC contract terms and Sasol standards.
• Resolve conflicts, manage crises and adapt to schedule changes to meet project milestones.

Required profile

• Technical diploma or relevant trade qualification.
• Registered or in the process of registration as a Professional Construction Manager (Pr.CM) or Construction Project Manager (Pr.CPM) with SACPCMP.
• Minimum 5 years of multidisciplinary construction experience in the petrochemical/energy sector, preferably within the Sasol environment.
• Proven track record with MV/LV switchgear projects and commissioning.
• Strong understanding of construction phases, brownfield and greenfield projects, and applicable codes and regulations.
• Driver’s licence and willingness to work extended hours to meet schedules.

Required skills

• MV and LV switchgear replacement and commissioning procedures.
• Proficiency with MS Office and MS Project.
• Knowledge of NEC3 and Engineering and Construction Contracts (ECC).
• Ability to read and interpret design drawings.
• Familiarity with construction codes, standards and safety regulations.
