Configuration Support Engineer

About the role

Safran Electronics & Defense is looking for a detail‑oriented Configuration Support Engineer to join its Engineering team in Durban. The role ensures that product configuration data, documentation and change processes are accurately controlled throughout the product lifecycle, supporting compliance with quality, customer and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and maintain Configuration Management (CM) processes and procedures.
• Control and maintain product configuration baselines across the product lifecycle.
• Administer engineering documentation, drawings, bills of materials (BOMs) and technical records.
• Coordinate Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
• Perform configuration identification, status accounting, traceability and verification activities.
• Support configuration audits, reviews and generate configuration metrics for management.
• Maintain product data within ERP, PLM and document management systems.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Production, Supply Chain and Project teams to ensure configuration integrity.

Required profile

• National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 2–5 years of experience in Configuration Management, Engineering Support or Technical Documentation Control.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment and familiarity with PLM, ERP or configuration management systems is advantageous.
