Compliance Officer – AML/CFT Specialist

About the role

The company, an established financial services organisation, is looking for an experienced Compliance Officer to join its Head Office team. Reporting to the Group Chief Operating Officer, you will lead the Anti‑Money Laundering, Counter Financing of Terrorism and Counter Proliferation Financing framework and ensure compliance with South African regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain AML/CFT/CPF policies, procedures and internal controls.
• Conduct customer risk assessments, enhanced due diligence, ongoing monitoring and sanctions/PEP screening.
• Oversee corporate client onboarding, ensuring FICA/KYC compliance and prepare regulatory reports such as CTRs, STRs and SARs.
• Liaise with the Financial Intelligence Centre and other regulators, responding to requests and supporting audits.
• Deliver AML/CFT training, perform due diligence on partners and review contracts for compliance risks.

Required profile

• BCom degree in Compliance, Law, Finance, Risk Management or related field; relevant certifications (e.g., Compliance Institute of South Africa, AML/CFT) are advantageous.
• Minimum five years of compliance experience in the financial services sector, preferably within an FSP environment.
• Proven experience in compliance monitoring, regulatory reporting, advisory functions and interaction with regulators.
• Fluent in English and Afrikaans.
