Communication Specialist: Systems Change

About the role

The Communication Specialist – Systems Change will join Ilifa Labantwana’s Systems Change team to translate complex public‑administration processes into clear, actionable communication materials. You will support government departments and local authorities in delivering early childhood development (ECD) services across South Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Produce a full range of communications collateral – brochures, flyers, press releases, articles, newsletters, reports, speeches, website copy, training materials and social media content.
• Develop instructional and training resources in print, digital, video, infographic and presentation formats, selecting the most suitable medium for each audience.
• Translate dense policy documents, guidelines and procedural content into accessible materials for government officials and ECD programme managers.
• Create content tailored for second‑language English speakers in lower‑LSM segments, ensuring clarity and behaviour‑change focus.
• Apply strong framing and positioning to ensure messages support sector‑wide change management.
• Script, produce and edit short‑form video content for training and awareness purposes.

Required profile

• Mid‑level professional who thrives on complexity and enjoys making difficult information clear.
• Excellent writing and editing ability with a keen eye for tone and audience adaptation.
• Experience producing multi‑format communication materials for public‑sector or development contexts.
• Ability to work at pace, manage multiple deliverables and support change initiatives across an entire sector.
