Commercial Manager – Business Development

About the role

This high‑accountability position balances strategic revenue growth with exceptional client experience, aligning team performance with business objectives and driving sustainable profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a team of Business Development Managers to deliver revenue, gross margin and profit targets representing ~25% of the annual budget.
• Ensure pricing discipline, deal profitability and debtor management, providing monthly variance analyses and corrective action plans.
• Oversee BDM activities, contract terms, rebates and governance frameworks, while identifying and mitigating revenue risks.
• Collaborate with Finance on budgets, capital allocation and cost controls; participate in quarterly budget reviews.
• Act as the primary liaison between the BDM team and senior leadership, reporting on performance, market trends and challenges.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of sales leadership experience with proven budget and profitability achievement.
• People‑management experience, coaching high‑performance BDM teams on pricing and deal structuring.
• Strong export trade knowledge in FMCG, food, beverages or alcohol markets across Africa, the Middle East or Indian Ocean islands.
• Matric and a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, commerce or a related field; valid passport and driver’s licence.

Required skills

• QlikView or Qlik Sense analytics (or similar Business Intelligence tools).
• Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Windows proficiency.
