Commercial Director: Retail Sales

About the role

AVTA is seeking a commercially‑driven Commercial Director to lead its in‑store digital media division, covering digital signage and in‑store radio. Based in Cape Town, you will own the new‑business agenda, shape retailer partnerships and sit on the Executive and Management committees.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, qualify and win new business across digital signage and in‑store radio, meeting revenue and margin targets.
• Build and nurture long‑term advisory relationships with retailers and industry partners.
• Lead, mentor and manage the pre‑sales/solutions team to deliver high‑quality proposals and designs.
• Provide weekly pipeline and forecast reporting to EXCO and MANCO, highlighting risks and mitigation.
• Maintain an accurate sales pipeline, analysing health, conversion and market opportunities.
• Act as the commercial liaison across Sales, Procurement, Projects, Service, Finance and Administration.
• Oversee smooth handovers from sales to delivery, ensuring scoped projects and managed expectations.
• Monitor market trends, customer needs, competitor activity and emerging technologies.

Required profile

• Proven track record of selling into retailers and building lasting partnerships.
• Senior‑level B2B sales and business‑development experience with consistent target achievement.
• Experience leading and developing a sales or pre‑sales/solutions team.
• Strong commercial acumen and excellent communication skills.
