Commercial Attorney (Associate) – Cape Town

About the role

Morae is seeking a dynamic Commercial Attorney at the associate level to join its team in Observatory, Cape Town. The role involves commercial contracting, venture‑capital and investment work, and participation in technology‑enabled legal projects.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts.
• Ensure contractual compliance with legislation, client policies and industry standards.
• Identify legal risks in agreements and propose mitigation strategies.
• Conduct negotiations with suppliers and third parties to achieve favourable outcomes.
• Analyse complex legal issues and provide clear, business‑focused advice.
• Support project implementation, including legal solution development and technology‑enabled initiatives.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate within the legal team, demonstrating accountability and initiative.

Required profile

• LLB or equivalent legal degree and admitted attorney.
• 3–6 years post‑qualification experience in a commercial legal environment.
• Demonstrated expertise in commercial contracting.
• Proven track record negotiating and drafting agreements in venture capital, investment, property/real estate, insurance or financial services.
• Solid understanding of commercial transactions and venture‑capital agreements.
• Based in Cape Town.
