Clinical Training Specialist – Theatre Qualified

About the role

The Clinical Training Specialist – Theatre Qualified will be based at Life Mercantile Hospital in Johannesburg, reporting to the Nursing Standards Manager. The role focuses on delivering clinical education and competency development for specialist unit staff and nursing students.

Key responsibilities

• Manage CPD programmes and other educational initiatives for qualified nurses.
• Plan, coordinate and monitor nursing competency requirements and risk‑based in‑service training.
• Provide coaching, mentoring and assessment to ensure clinical competence.
• Participate in incident investigations and hospital quality projects, offering feedback and remedial actions.
• Oversee internal and external student clinical programmes, including selection, administration and resource management.
• Identify learning opportunities, facilitate skills development and support student research projects.
• Promote the nursing profession through marketing initiatives and community events.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Nursing (post‑basic qualification in peri‑operative nursing preferred).
• Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) and status as a registered assessor/moderator.
• Proven clinical leadership experience.
• Knowledge of nursing legislation, education systems and change‑management principles.
• Understanding of the private healthcare industry is an advantage.
• Willingness to work flexible hours as required by the unit.
