Clinical Nurse (R/N) - Experienced - Surgical Ward 2

About the role

The Professional Nurse/Clinical Nurse is responsible for delivering holistic, person‑centred nursing care on Surgical Ward 2, coordinating with the multidisciplinary team and acting as a patient advocate.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as a clinical resource assisting personnel to assess, plan, implement, evaluate and document nursing care in the unit.
• Ensure communication with families, health professionals and nursing management to optimise patient care and resolve issues.
• Assess, plan and implement advanced nursing care in a specialised field according to standards and SOPs.
• Initiate and maintain emergency treatment (RESUS) as indicated.
• Interview patients and families to obtain background information and identify problems.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team rounds, develop nursing care plans and coordinate patient services.
• Prepare shift documentation reflecting patient status and staffing ratios.
• Contribute to policy and procedure development and quality and risk management.

Required profile

• Registered Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council.
• Thorough knowledge of general and specialised nursing theory and practice.
• Extensive knowledge of modern nursing care principles and practices.
