Civil Engineer – Pavement Engineering

About the role

Our client, a large international engineering consultancy, is looking for a professionally registered Civil Engineer with strong pavement engineering experience to join its Transport & Infrastructure team in Cape Town. The role involves delivering high‑quality road and transport infrastructure projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary professionals.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pavement investigations, condition assessments, engineering calculations and technical evaluations.
• Prepare pavement designs, rehabilitation solutions, engineering reports, drawings, specifications and cost estimates.
• Deliver pavement engineering services for roads, highways, municipal roads and transport infrastructure projects.
• Evaluate pavement materials, surfacing options, rehabilitation strategies and construction methodologies.
• Review contractor submissions, technical documentation and project specifications for compliance.
• Provide construction support, site supervision and delegated contract administration as required.
• Liaise with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams to ensure successful delivery.
• Assist with proposals, tenders, budgets, resource planning and business development activities.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth of the pavement engineering team.
• Promote strong SHEQ standards and safe engineering practices.

Required profile

• BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in pavement engineering, roads, highways or transport infrastructure.
• Experience on SANRAL, provincial, municipal or major infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of pavement design, rehabilitation, materials investigations, construction monitoring and technical reporting.
• Understanding of COTO/COLTO specifications, SANRAL standards and South African pavement design practices.
