Chief Operations Technology Officer

About the role

ATNS is seeking a visionary leader to head its Operations Technology Department. The Chief Operations Technology Officer will shape the strategy and delivery of communication, navigation and surveillance systems that support safe and efficient air traffic management across South Africa and the surrounding region.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a five‑year Operations Technology strategy aligned with ATNS corporate objectives.
• Define the operations engineering services model, incorporating end‑user requirements and global ATM best practices.
• Influence national and regional CNS (communication, navigation, surveillance) concepts and plans over a 20‑year horizon.
• Monitor the availability and performance of safety‑critical systems, ensuring continuous, reliable aviation operations.
• Represent ATNS in engagements with ICAO, industry associations and other key stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in operations technology, preferably within aviation or air traffic management.
• Deep understanding of ICAO standards, CNS systems and air navigation planning.
• Demonstrated ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams and drive performance‑based contracts.
• Commitment to ethical leadership, corporate citizenship and integrated reporting as per the King Code.
