Chief Operations Officer (COO)

About the role

The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) is seeking a visionary Chief Operations Officer to lead its Operations Departments. Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO will shape long‑term strategy, drive operational excellence and ensure alignment with the centre’s mission and the City of Cape Town’s priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute long‑term operational strategies that support growth, cost efficiency and shareholder value.
• Lead the annual business planning process for ICT, facilities, safety & security, event logistics, and food & beverage operations.
• Monitor and control CAPEX budgets, track monthly revenue, and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Establish and enforce standard operating procedures, policies and compliance frameworks.
• Translate strategic goals into workforce plans, optimise organisational structures and manage performance systems.
• Oversee risk management initiatives and ensure best‑practice operational risk controls.
• Report progress on strategic implementation to the CEO and promote the CTICC culture and values.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in large‑scale operations, preferably within venues, hospitality or events.
• Strong strategic thinking with a track record of delivering cost‑effective operational plans.
• Excellent people‑management skills, capable of building high‑performing teams and fostering a rewarding work environment.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex budgets, revenue streams and capital projects.
• Sound judgment in risk assessment and mitigation.
