Chief Director: Strategy

About the role

The Chief Director: Strategy provides senior strategic leadership for the health department, advising the executive team and coordinating with external partners. This role oversees the development, implementation and monitoring of health strategies to improve service delivery and patient outcomes across the province.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the lead technical advisor on departmental strategic management processes.
• Implement and maintain health intelligence systems and data analytics to support decision‑making.
• Facilitate strategy and policy development, priority setting, planning and coordination of implementation actions.
• Provide IT solutions, technical support and advice for departmental processes.
• Ensure departmental assurance for optimal patient experience and outcomes.
• Lead and coordinate the Chief Directorate’s strategic planning in alignment with overall departmental strategy.
• Define, review and update the purpose, objectives, priorities and activities of the Chief Directorate.
• Oversee people and financial management of the Chief Directorate.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification (NQF level 7) in Health, Social Science or related field.
• Minimum five years of senior managerial experience.
• Pre‑entry Certificate for Senior Management Services (or willingness to obtain it).
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel extensively within the province.
