About the role
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) will provide direct patient care on the Nephrology Unit of a 444‑bed hospital. Working day shifts on a full‑time schedule, the CNA supports registered nurses and the team leader by delivering hands‑on assistance, monitoring vital signs, and ensuring patient comfort and safety.
Key responsibilities
- Take and record temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, height, and intake‑output measurements.
- Encourage patients to turn, cough, use incentive spirometry, and perform deep‑breathing exercises.
- Assist patients with ambulation, transfers, wheelchair use, and transport as needed.
- Provide morning and evening care including bed baths, oral hygiene, dressing, linen changes, and bedside cleaning.
- Empty drains, canisters, urine bags, bedpans and emesis basins, documenting intake and output.
- Maintain a safe environment by reporting equipment issues and handling supplies appropriately.
- Assist with positioning, lifting, application/removal of abdominal binders, anti‑embolism stockings, and sequential compression devices.
- Empty and clean ostomy bags, collect urine, stool, sputum, and other specimens as ordered.
- Perform range‑of‑motion assistance and support use of ambulatory devices.
- Conduct phlebotomy and EKG procedures after required training, ensuring correct labeling and documentation.
- Promptly answer call lights and respond to patient requests.
Required profile
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification.
- Ability to work day shifts on a 72‑hour per pay‑period schedule.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow the plan of care.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with patients, families, and the care team.
- Willingness to work under the supervision of a team leader in a hospital setting.
