Cashier - Southgate

About the role

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for an experienced cashier for its Southgate store in Johannesburg South. The role supports customer service at the point of sale while ensuring a world-class shopping experience, recording transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system according to company policies and standard operating procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Process all purchases and payments (cash, bank cards, vouchers, coupons and other accepted payment methods)
• Record transactions accurately on the Dis-Chem operating system and follow company policies and SOPs
• Handle daily takings, keep them secure in the till and place cash in the drop safe according to SOPs
• Manage cash flow and ensure all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by the supervisor
• Exchange merchandise and accept returned goods when authorised, and scan and pay for all outgoing stock, items and scripts
• Process loyalty cards, including partner programmes such as Discovery Health Care, Medihelp Lifestage, Momentum Multiply, Legacy Lifestyle, ABSA Rewards and eBucks
• Report customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management, and report suspicious behaviour
• Adhere to customer service, security and customer turnover policies, and carry out the Dis-Chem 5-star communication principles

Required profile

• Grade 12 / Matric
• At least 6 months of cashier or till operations experience
• Willing and able to work retail hours
• Reliable transport and/or residence close to the store, South African citizenship, clear credit and criminal records

Required skills

• Computer literacy with MS Office
• Sound numerical skills and strong command of English
• In-depth knowledge of cash registers and cash drawers, and of processing sales, refunds and payments
• Accuracy, attention to detail, trustworthiness and problem-solving
