Care Home General Assistant

About the role

The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) is seeking a Care Home General Assistant to support daily operations in its Tygerberg care facility. You will contribute to patient wellbeing, maintain a clean environment, and assist with nutrition and administrative tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare three balanced meals daily according to approved menus and dietary requirements.
• Perform housekeeping duties, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and infection control.
• Monitor patients’ vital signs, note side effects, and report to the TLC Coordinator.
• Maintain accurate, confidential patient reporting systems and complete intake forms.
• Provide basic information about care home services to patients, families, and visitors.
• Interact with stakeholders, clients, and patient families, addressing concerns within guidelines.

Required profile

• Grade 12 qualification.
• Previous experience in a care home, healthcare, hospitality or similar environment (advantageous).
• Relevant caregiving or healthcare training/certification (beneficial).
• Compassionate, caring attitude with strong confidentiality and professionalism.
• Non‑smoker.

Required skills

• Good housekeeping and food preparation abilities.
• Excellent communication and listening skills.
