Candidate Attorney – Intellectual Property & Commercial Law

About the role

STEYN IP is seeking a full‑time Candidate Attorney to join its Kempton Park office. The role provides practical vocational training in trademark, patent, design, copyright, commercial and litigation law under the supervision of experienced attorneys.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and draft memoranda, opinions and various legal documents under supervision.
• Assist with trademark, patent, design and copyright matters.
• Support commercial agreement drafting and related advisory work.
• Help attorneys in intellectual property, commercial and general litigation matters.
• Lodge, issue, file and serve legal documents; attend courts, registries and relevant offices.
• Manage files, correspondence, deadlines and procedural requirements.
• Attend client consultations and liaise with counsel, service providers and public authorities.
• Prepare matter reports, accounts and billing information.

Required profile

• LLB degree from a recognised South African institution.
• Eligibility to enter into a Practical Vocational Training contract.
• Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Own reliable transport and willingness to travel to courts and registries.
• Residence in or near Kempton Park is preferred.
