Business Development Specialist – Remote (Construction Materials)

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Business Development Specialist to join a UK‑based construction materials company’s internal sales team. Working remotely from South Africa, you will drive promotional campaigns, build strong merchant relationships, and help customers maximise the value of the client’s products and services.

Key responsibilities

• Make high‑volume outbound calls to merchants to promote campaigns, products and initiatives.
• Develop and maintain long‑term relationships with merchant customers through regular engagement.
• Communicate commercial benefits of campaigns without hard‑selling tactics.
• Identify opportunities to generate additional orders and improve campaign performance.
• Support merchant onboarding and product adoption.
• Collaborate with the external sales team to align campaign activity with regional priorities.
• Maintain accurate CRM records and update activity reports using spreadsheets and reporting tools.
• Monitor customer interactions, recognise buying signals and convert opportunities into sales.
• Meet and exceed daily outbound activity and engagement targets.
• Participate in daily team huddles and campaign update meetings.

Required profile

• Proven experience in outbound sales, telesales or business development within a target‑driven environment.
• Strong relationship‑building skills with trade‑based customers and merchants.
• Excellent telephone manner and ability to build rapport quickly.
• High commercial awareness and confidence communicating product value.
• Ability to work independently in a fully remote setting.
• Resilience when handling objections and maintaining high call volumes.
• Fluent written and spoken English (minimum 4.5/5 proficiency) with a neutral accent.
• Previous experience in construction materials or building supplies is a plus.
