Business Development Manager – Renewable Energy

About the role

We are seeking a Business Development Manager to drive the origination and early‑stage development of utility‑scale, grid‑connected renewable energy projects for a leading Independent Power Producer. Based in Sandton, you will work closely with technical, legal and finance teams to move projects from concept to financial close.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and originate new utility‑scale renewable energy opportunities.
• Lead commercial negotiations with landowners, regulators, utilities, municipalities and partners.
• Manage projects through the development lifecycle up to financial close and handover.
• Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders and strategic partners.
• Coordinate with engineering, environmental, legal and finance teams to ensure efficient project progress.
• Assess project feasibility, commercial viability and development risks.
• Support pipeline growth through market analysis and strategic business development initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in business development, project origination or project development within the renewable energy sector.
• Strong understanding of utility‑scale, grid‑connected renewable projects.
• Demonstrated ability to manage commercial negotiations and multiple stakeholder relationships.
• Experience working for an Independent Power Producer or renewable energy developer.
• Excellent commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
