Business Development Manager – Johannesburg Region

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic, commercially strong Business Development Manager to be based in Sandton, Johannesburg. The role will service and grow our intermediary client base across greater Johannesburg, the Eastern Cape and the Northern Cape, reporting to the Head of Retail Distribution and collaborating closely with the Account Management team.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a regional business plan for Johannesburg, the Eastern Cape and the Northern Cape, aligned to growth, activity and retention targets.
• Partner with the Head of Retail Distribution and Account Managers to design and implement client strategies covering sales, retention and growth.
• Leverage the CRM system to manage relationships, track pipeline activity and maintain data integrity.
• Identify client needs and match them with the full Sanlam Investments product suite, including Ninety One capabilities.
• Manage and expand key client relationships, focusing on retention, new business development and increasing wallet share.
• Host training sessions and client events, both online and in‑person, to educate and engage partners.
• Travel regularly within Gauteng and to the Eastern and Northern Cape to support regional activities.

Required profile

• Proven experience in business development or sales within financial services or investment management.
• Strong relationship‑management and client‑education abilities.
• Commercial acumen with a track record of identifying and driving growth opportunities.
• Willingness to travel frequently across assigned regions.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners.
