Billing Operations Centre Clinical Coder

About the role

The Billing Operations Centre (BOC) seeks a Clinical Coder to join its Cape Town team. Working under the Clinical Coding Specialist, you will collaborate with billing teams, clinicians, and managed‑care organisations to ensure accurate coding for reimbursement and risk‑management purposes.

Key responsibilities

• Review and audit clinical documentation to assign accurate ICD‑10 and CCSA codes.
• Liaise with patients, treating clinicians, and payers to resolve coding queries and escalations.
• Consider alternative reimbursement models and value‑based contracts when selecting diagnostic and procedural codes.
• Participate in system‑enhancement and process‑improvement projects.
• Support departmental and institutional objectives related to coding accuracy, DRG assignment, and case‑mix management.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of ICD‑10, CCSA, DRG, and MDC coding systems.
• Experience reviewing clinical documentation for coding accuracy.
• Ability to collaborate across clinical, billing, and payer teams.
• Attention to detail and understanding of medical necessity and severity.
