Backend Software Developer

About the role

Taurine Technology, a Cape Town startup, is building Axon – an AI‑powered network management platform that runs on any hardware, from Raspberry Pi to enterprise firewalls. We are looking for a senior or mid‑level Backend Software Developer to join our AI‑native team and help turn massive telemetry streams into actionable insight.

Key responsibilities

• Own core components of the Axon controller that process millions of telemetry data points per site.
• Develop LLM tooling for traffic classification, troubleshooting, and policy enforcement delivered via MCP.
• Implement high‑throughput telemetry ingestion under strict CPU, memory and disk budgets.
• Design resilient systems for unreliable links and offline devices in remote networks.
• Build MCP integrations that enable autonomous agent actions while keeping operators in the loop.
• Create new traffic‑intelligence features, including classification and anomaly detection.

Required profile

• 3–5 years of experience building production‑grade backend systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python and Go.
• Solid understanding of network fundamentals such as TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker and Linux environments.
• Familiarity with AI development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, Cursor).
