AWS Cloud Engineer (6‑month contract)

About the role

This contract position is for an experienced AWS Cloud Engineer to support a banking client’s enterprise cloud environment. You will design, implement and maintain secure, scalable infrastructure while working in a hybrid setting in Johannesburg.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deploy and manage AWS services such as EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS/Aurora, Auto Scaling, ELB, ECS and EKS.
• Build Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
• Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated application releases.
• Monitor performance with CloudWatch, troubleshoot incidents and perform root‑cause analysis.
• Manage networking components including VPCs, DNS, routing, security groups and load balancers.
• Apply cloud security best practices using KMS, Secrets Manager, WAF and Shield.
• Collaborate with developers, infrastructure and security teams to deliver solutions.
• Document architectures, runbooks and support cloud migration initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 + years hands‑on AWS engineering experience.
• National Diploma or Degree in Computer Science, IT or related field.
• AWS Solutions Architect – Associate or SysOps Administrator – Associate preferred; Cloud Practitioner advantageous.

• AWS services: EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS/Aurora, Auto Scaling, ELB, ECS, EKS, CloudWatch, CloudTrail.
• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, AWS CloudFormation.
• Linux system administration.
• Container technologies and Kubernetes.
• CI/CD pipeline creation.
• Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS.
• Scripting: Python, Bash/Shell.
• SQL and cloud database experience.
