Audit & Assurance Professional

About the role

The Audit & Assurance Professional will join Acute Accountants to lead and support audit engagements for SMEs, trusts and owner‑managed businesses. The role involves planning, executing and finalising audits in line with International Standards on Auditing while ensuring compliance with IFRS and local regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, execute and finalise audit engagements according to ISAs.
• Perform audit testing on revenue, expenses, assets, liabilities and equity, and assess internal controls and risks.
• Prepare and maintain complete audit files, including working papers, supporting schedules and audit completion documentation.
• Identify audit findings, risks and control weaknesses and report them to senior staff.
• Assist in drafting audit opinions, management reports and financial statements.
• Review financial statements prepared under IFRS/IFRS for SMEs and ensure compliance with the Companies Act and CIPC requirements.
• Communicate professionally with clients to request information, explain audit queries and maintain strong relationships.
• Use SmartPractice for client information management, document control and audit file organisation.
• Adhere to internal policies, quality‑control standards and confidentiality requirements.

Required profile

• BCom Accounting or BAcc (or equivalent) with SAICA/SAIPA articles completed or in progress.
• Eligible to register with a recognised professional body.
• 1–3 years of audit experience in an accounting or audit firm, preferably with SMEs, trusts or owner‑managed businesses.

Required skills

• Knowledge of International Standards on Auditing (ISAs).
• Understanding of IFRS and IFRS for SMEs.
• Experience with CaseWare or similar audit software.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Familiarity with accounting software and practice‑management systems (advantageous).
