Audio Visual IT Technician – IT Services

About the role

The University of Pretoria seeks two Audio Visual IT Technicians to support lecturers and staff by ensuring that audio‑visual equipment is correctly set up, maintained, and available for lectures, conferences and other events across campus venues.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 2nd‑line AV support to lecturers, ensuring equipment matches the needs analysis and is ready on time.
• Diagnose and resolve AV technical issues within critical timeframes across multiple locations.
• Escalate unresolved AV problems to 3rd‑level IT support and log all service calls.
• Assist workstation support technicians with computer and software issues as directed.
• Configure the university’s enterprise Wi‑Fi on AV devices and perform basic maintenance of Podium machines.
• Conduct 1st‑line maintenance, replace faulty AV components, and audit equipment to keep the asset register up‑to‑date.
• Repair or replace damaged audio/video cables, service overhead projectors (including bulb replacement), and install/wire new AV equipment.
• Participate in scheduled events as a member of the AV team, providing setup, operation, after‑hours support and troubleshooting.

Required profile

• Ability to provide in‑person and telephonic assistance for AV issues in university venues.
• Capacity to work under time pressure and meet critical deadlines.
• Willingness to collaborate with other IT support staff and follow team‑leader directives.
• Readiness to provide after‑hours support when scheduled.
