Associate Professor – Research Psychology

About the role

The University of KwaZulu‑Natal seeks an Associate Professor in Research Psychology to join its School of Social Sciences. The successful candidate will contribute to both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, curriculum development, and high‑quality research within the psychology discipline.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures and seminars in core psychology modules and specialised topics such as research methods, research ethics, and monitoring & evaluation.
• Develop and update undergraduate and postgraduate curricula.
• Supervise Master’s and PhD students, guiding their research projects to successful completion.
• Maintain an active research programme, publishing in reputable scientific journals.
• Secure external research funding and manage grant‑related activities.
• Participate in departmental, school, and university service, including mentorship and academic leadership.

Required profile

• PhD in Psychology or a closely related field.
• Professional Master’s degree in Research Psychology.
• Minimum six years of relevant experience in teaching, research, or industry.
• Demonstrated record of peer‑reviewed publications and successful grant acquisition.
• Proven experience supervising postgraduate students at Master’s and PhD levels.
• National and international recognition in a specific research area.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council as a Research Psychologist, with at least three years post‑registration experience.
