Associate Attorney – Family Law (Durban)

About the role

Benita Ardenbaum Attorneys is seeking a motivated Associate Attorney to join its family‑law practice in Durban. You will provide expert legal advice, represent clients in court, and help individuals navigate emotionally charged divorce and family matters.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, agreements and other legal documents.
• Offer strategic legal counsel to clients and internal stakeholders.
• Conduct thorough legal research to support case strategy.
• Represent clients in court hearings, mediations and negotiations.
• Monitor legal developments and assess their impact on client matters.
• Perform legal risk assessments and ensure regulatory compliance.
• Mentor junior legal staff and manage case files accurately.
• Collaborate with colleagues across the firm on diverse matters.

Required profile

• LLB degree with 3–5 years post‑admission experience.
• Proven experience in family law or commercial law within a legal practice.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and organisational abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills and a compassionate approach to clients.

Required skills

• Legal research and investigative skills.
• Drafting, reviewing and negotiating complex legal documents.
• Litigation, negotiation and mediation experience.
• Knowledge of relevant South African family‑law statutes and regulations.
