Assistant Resident Engineer – Road Projects

About the role

A leading multi‑disciplinary project management firm urgently seeks an Assistant Resident Engineer to support a major road project in the Free State area, ensuring quality delivery and coordination among all parties.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in enforcing project deadlines and schedules.
• Apply and manage site quality in line with ISO standards.
• Understand fiscal aspects of a successful project.
• Travel between project sites as required.
• Monitor and report daily construction progress, keeping the project within budget and program.
• Oversee the quality of road works and related activities.
• Take overall responsibility for site staff management.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed and protect employees and the public.

Required profile

• Effective engagement with personnel at all levels.
• Proven project management capabilities.
• Ability to communicate difficult or sensitive information tactfully.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong administrative, organisational and time‑management abilities.
• Computer literacy.
• Identify critical issues quickly and apply emerging industry practices.
• Work independently within a project team and read construction programmes.
