Assistant Portfolio Manager – Rest of Africa (Listed Equities)

About the role

The role supports the management of a listed‑equities portfolio across African markets for an established institutional asset manager. You will conduct country, sector and security research, develop investment theses and present buy/sell recommendations to the portfolio team.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct fundamental equity and capital‑markets research across African jurisdictions.
• Develop country and sector views, incorporating macro‑economic, currency and market factors.
• Formulate allocation and security recommendations supported by detailed investment theses.
• Build, maintain and update fundamental valuation models.
• Analyse portfolio and security exposures against valuations.
• Present investment recommendations to Portfolio Management and Listed Equities teams.
• Provide ongoing company, industry and valuation research.
• Travel to relevant African markets as required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance or Science.
• 5–7 years of relevant experience in investment management, banking or management consulting.
• Strong understanding of Rest‑of‑Africa capital markets, macro‑economics, currencies and investment risk.
• Demonstrated experience in equity research and fundamental valuation modelling.
• Excellent numerical, analytical, written and presentation abilities.
