Assistant Officer – Incident Response Officer

About the role

The University of the Free State is seeking an Assistant Officer to join its Protection Services team on the South Campus. The role focuses on responding to security incidents, conducting preliminary investigations, and supporting shift leaders in maintaining a safe campus environment.

Key responsibilities

• Respond promptly to reported incidents and conduct initial investigations.
• Secure incident scenes, take photographic evidence, and coordinate with shift leaders.
• Perform visible patrols and routine building inspections to identify safety and security risks.
• Compile risk reports and assist in emergency evacuation drills and protest management.
• Support shift leaders during incidents and act as shift leader when required.

Required profile

• Grade 12 or National Vocational Certificate (NQF Level 4).
• Valid Grade B PSIRA certificate and Armed Response certificate.
• Valid South African driving licence (code 8).
• Minimum one year of relevant security or incident response experience.
• Preferably holds an Incident Investigation certificate, crowd‑control certification, or experience in a higher‑education setting.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
